Batterers Intervention Service (BIS) The Batterers Intervention Service/Domestic Violence Intervention Service (BIS/DVIS) is an educational program for men who want to take responsibility for their own behavior and learn skills to start that change now. This is a 60 hour comprehensive educational program that meets once a week for a 2.5 hour session for 24 weeks. FSAWV has adopted the Duluth model for men who batter and physically abuse their partners. Referrals are made through the District Attorney's office for men who have violated their Protection from Abuse (PFA) order. The BIS/DVIS program is designed to re-educate and hold men accountable for their actions. This is in compliance with the zero tolerance protocol for domestic violence. There are 8 themes that are addressed in this program that men frequently use to abuse their partners. Men will use coercion and threats, economic abuse, male privilege, children, minimizing and denying, isolation, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, power and control, accountability, logical and illogical consequences and defining female equality.
