Family Visitation Service (FVS)

FSAWV is initiating the Family Visitation Service program under a grant for the US Department of Justice.   The Family Visitation Service will create a program of supervised visitation of children with an estranged parent, as well as a secure location for child exchange between estranged parents.

FSAWV, in conjunction with the Luzerne County Office of Human Services and the Luzerne County Orphans Court, and in partnership with the Domestic Violence Service Center, will establish a Family Visitation Service to provide a means and facility to provide a safe opportunity for estranged parents and custodial parents to participate in the lives of their children.  There are five goals for the Family Visitation Service:

Goal #1.  Provide access to supervised visitation and exchange services for all families in Luzerne County.

Goal #2.  Implement parent-child visitation and exchange practices and protocols that address the safety of all family participants in the areas of physical, emotional and sexual violence.

Goal #3.  Implement practices and protocols that follow established best practices standards.

Goal #4.  Inform the community of the availability and benefits of a supervised visitation and exchange service.

Goal #5.  Develop a long-term strategic plan for sustainability based on community investment in developing resources to reduce the risk of incidents of interpersonal violence.

This project was supported by Grant No. 2005-CW-AX-0024 awarded by the Office on Violence Against Women, US Department of Justice.  The opinions, finding, conclusions and recommendations expressed in this publication/program/exhibition are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women.
