Services:

FORENSIC INTERVIEWS:
Referrals for forensic services are strictly made through the investigative team members (law enforcement, Children and Youth Services and the District Attorney). A forensic interview is conducted by a specially trained interviewer.   Forensic interviews are typically the cornerstone of a child abuse investigation, effective child protection, subsequent prosecution, and are the beginning of the healing process for many children.

FORENSIC MEDICAL EXAMS:
The forensic medical exam is performed by a pediatric sexual assault nurse examiner or other expert medical providers. These exams are non-invasive and provide reassurances to the child and their family that their bodies are “OK”. Screenings and treatment can be provided as a result of medical findings in sexual abuse cases. Physical abuse allegations are also evaluated by the forensic medical provider.

MENTAL HEALTH THERAPY:
Mental health services can be referred by anyone with concerns for a child. The mental health therapist is a licensed clinician who provides specialized trauma treatments at the Children’s Center of Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties. The therapist is trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TFCBT) and Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).

TFCBT is an evidence-based trauma treatment model for ages 6-18. To learn more, click here

PCIT is an evidence-based trauma treatment model for ages 2 1/2–7. To learn more, click here.

OUTREACH AND EDUCATION:
CAC staff is available to speak at community, school, and civic organizations free of charge. We also participate in resource fairs and events such as summer camps, National Night Out, and back to school nights.

Stop Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) is a school-based program designed to provide child abuse prevention and safety information to school children. Staff members teach youth about personal safety including inappropriate touching, Internet safety, and bullying. The program is free to area schools for grades 3, 5, 7 and 9. Parent sessions are available upon request.

About:

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties was established in 2015 after stakeholders in each county determined a need for child advocacy center services. Since its beginnings, the mission of the center has been to deliver an immediate, effective, well-integrated community response to child abuse. A guiding principle of the CAC is to decrease the amount of trauma child victims experience during the course of an investigation and to make sure they receive the services they need to thrive.

The Center is an affiliate member of National Children’s Alliance and the Pennsylvania Chapter of CAC’s/MDIT’s and partners with the United Way of Susquehanna & Wyoming Counties.
